I noticed that some of the new players were asking about the Mermaid Fountain and when it was likely to appear in the Marketplace.

Although I do not know the answer to THAT question specifically, I do know that the Mermaid Fountain never was offered in the Marketplace except as the contents of a Treasure Chest. It was early last autumn that I was able to obtain mine by purchasing a number of Treasure Chests.

A Treasure Chest cost 10 KC in those days. I see the price now is 11 KC. For a time, the Portal Winds Artifact, the Mermaid Fountain and the Tree of the Fallen could be obtained in Treasure Chests. Now there are Faerie Dragon Treasure Chests that contain Faerie Dragons specific to Valentine's Day.

If any player has been able to find a Mermaid Fountain within the last fortnight or so by opening a Treasure Chest, please let me know! It is one of my all-time favourite items in Fantasy Kingdoms...Freyashawkhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00379748386863454385noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2998377519316030595.post-70614289808798015462011-02-08T07:20:00.000-08:002011-02-09T05:30:09.807-08:00Gifts for St. Valentine's Day<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 75px; height: 75px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5735ztnYWLm-BQkMjvv7IFDUqJIMV6irG0KX_iYfrGpp1Z_86hR2WYLIA1hFmwuIbvm-obhF7KuOC_11jZ1L5ArItUGmCbphKMw2gvwIXfTa8lAj_AF70oIxehibZQm4qyIT63FATX38/s320/Cupid%2527s+Magic.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5571380076604457714" />

As many of my favourite Winter Gifts disappear from the Free Gifts Menu, some gorgeous St. Valentine's Day Gifts take their place. If the Quests had appeared during the 'dog days of Summer' when no festivals were being celebrated or anticipated, perhaps we wouldn't have minded them so much.

The fact of the matter is that the Quests were issued at a point in time when the Winter Collection was being retired, the Lunar New Year items had just been released for a very brief period and the St. Valentine's Day Festival Items were being advertised as future offerings.

First via a splash screen and now on Harmony's Kingdom, we are treated to a breathtakingly gorgeous view of the Valentine's Day Collection. Many of us who have five Kingdoms have discovered that we have no space for the new Quests unless we destroy the integrity of a Kingdom's design. Furthermore, even with Artifacts that generate Mana, many of us have beggered ourselves on the Quest items at a point when we would have preferred to have purchased Winter Items, Lunar Festival Items or saved our Mana for the upcoming Valentine's Day Items.

When one gazes at the Castle of Love, the Romantic Gazebo and the incredibly exquisite Trees that have not been released yet, is it any wonder that we rebel from the prospect of spending Mana and KC on the Country Theme, Desert Theme and whatever else the New Quests demand?

Fortunately, the developers have released a new set of Quests that concentrate on the Valentine Day's Theme! Although this is NOT a separate cycle from the Tutorial Quests, players should be advised that the Valentine Quests will not appear on the screen if you have not completed the 'Ring the Bells' Tutorial Quest to plant and gather 10 Belladonna.

YOU THEREFORE NEED TO COMPLETE THE 'RING THE BELLS' QUEST IF YOU WISH TO EMBARK ON THE VALENTINE DAY QUESTS.

Fantasy Kingdoms, as I wrote in an earlier post, is in a peculiar situation because of its incredible creativity and beauty. It is NOT Farmville. The landscapes, Crops and Items are of a superior nature and the concept moreover, is one that lends itself to intricate landscaping. The New Quests are written cleverly but, at the end of the day, amount to a 'walkthrough' of all of the regular Crops and Items available in the Marketplace.

Holiday Quests are different, because they concentrate on Limited Edition Items that no longer would be available in a few weeks. Players therefore are disposed to invest in these Items. When the new Tutorial Quests placed us in a position where we had to choose between Crops and Items that we own in quantity and do not wish to duplicate and Crops and Items that soon will disappear from the Marketplace, many of us were distressed.

Space is a problem for us as well. I know that it only has been recently that we have been able to own five kingdoms, but after exhorting us to be creative in conceiving our Kingdoms with different Themes, Seasons or whatever we desired, we now have to scramble to find a space for the Quest Crops and Items. Perhaps we should be allowed to purchase a SIXTH KINGDOM specifically for the Quests at a very nominal sum! I know that if I had a sixth kingdom, I wouldn't mind completing the Quests as much...

If the Quests had appeared at the same time that the additional three Kingdoms were made available, we still would have had some space that was not used to implement a specific vision or theme. Now, however, most veteran players who have the maximum number of kingdoms have utilised each and every one of them!

I applaud the creativity of the developers in the clever writing that introduces the Crops and Items as well as empathising with their desire to help beginners (of which there are many at this point in time) to become acquainted with the game. There is a very hardcore group of veteran players, however, who have come to perceive Fantasy Kingdoms as our own ideal 'home'. One does forget sometimes that we have no rights of ownership over an online game. It was only when Lovely Farms lost its server for example, that one realised that one might lose that Farm forever... Like any other online game, Fantasy Kingdoms can do whatever it wishes with our Kingdoms, even to the point of consigning them to the dustbin.

Developers at Sneaky Games, the makers of Fantasy Kingdoms, always have shown themselves to be very conscious of our feelings and very quick to try to accommodate our needs and desires. We trust them far more than we probably trust any other online game creator.

I therefore was delighted by the appearance of the Valentine's Day Quests and no doubt, other players who were not terribly thrilled with the Tutorial Quests have been equally pleased by these new Festival Quests. Thank you, Sneaky Games, for THAT. Now, if only we could have a sixth kingdom for those Tutorial Quest items and crops or if we could 'hide' those icons until the end of February... If only the Valentine Day Quests truly were independent of the Tutorial Quests. I am in a sorry position now where, having spent Kingdoms Cash on Minor Growth Elixir to accelerate the process of some of the Tutorial Quests and having spent Mana as well to complete them, I still have Tutorial Quests pending. On the other hand, Fantasy Kingdoms, even if, lost in its beauty, we sometimes forget the fact, is a GAME, which means that we have to try to meet challenges such as these when they arise.Freyashawkhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00379748386863454385noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2998377519316030595.post-51052579127778460602011-02-03T07:39:00.000-08:002011-02-09T14:22:38.646-08:00Where is the Rabbit?<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 166px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQNEkvdzccsUcvihRbop5kbdLIzfaWvBgPHLeFXBbWLp-IssDXwjA1CjhfkosIis1m1k5CDqgcZHszUwBa8aDM5xjU-MlbzCG6h47oC_wdZAWH6uLBv2rDZP7wcbvPQlHFzghyphenhyphenKl8wadI/s320/Rabbit+Warrior.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5571818350686942498" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 248px; height: 203px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjBCtLwMlDSaBrrSqKQScwiBGE931BANttfGZ5tDrAJGKOJzfs-MtVenkDcUPzCUB8VzKNMNTEsbM49XAyPkhJSbCE5w6VvrP3UnS6RqjjAXBKuuepfEPtQJpeYXss1_ZfKm4kcxqdA1g/s320/rabbit+black+calligraphy.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5569492851569382802" />

*************************************************************************
Emboldened by the knowledge that one or more developers from Sneaky Games actually may READ these posts once in awhile, after wishing all and sundry a very Happy and Most Auspicious New Year, I would like to ask: Where is the RABBIT???

Fantasy Kingdoms offered us a number of gorgeous Limited Edition Lunar New Year items but, although there is a Spirit Fox (who preys traditionally on little rabbits and other cousins of the adorable and helpless creature), there is no Rabbit to be found anywhere in the Marketplace. It is a curious omission, particularly in view of the fact that Fantasy kingdoms does appear to be very well-versed in comparative mythology and traditional Western magical lore.

The Rabbit, apart from being the zodiacal symbol of this upcoming Lunar Year for those who follow the Lunar Calendar, is the sacred fertility symbol of the Great Goddess. That is why Rabbits are associated with Easter, a time of resurrection and new growth.

In Northern Western mythology, the Rabbit was so important that she was given a vital role to play in Bouddica's final battle against the Roman Empire. Boudicca, it is said, released a rabbit before the attack.

It is not only in Northern Europe and China that the Rabbit has powerful associations. Ix Chel, the Moon Goddess of the Mayans, in her youthful aspect is depicted as a young woman holding a Rabbit. Ix Chel was goddess of Water, the Moon, Weaving and Childbirth. In other words, an aspect of the Great Goddess herself.

Delving into comparative mythology is a pursuit more suited to my primary site, 'Notes from Freyashawk', so I shall refrain now from adding more allusions to Rabbits in myth and religion.

I daresay FK will produce a proverbial 'Rabbit from the hat' to celebrate Easter, and perhaps that is why the Rabbit was not included in the Lunar New Year offerings. Nonetheless, one wishes that one could have a little rabbit to bring good fortune to all of us as we begin Year 4709 according to the ancient Chinese Calendar in use since 2600 B.C. (according to the Western calendar).

9 February: When I returned from a very long and protracted ordeal at the eye doctor today with slightly blurred vision, one of the first new Items I found in the Marketplace in Fantasy Kingdoms was a very dignified Rabbit Warrior! The quality of my screenshot leaves much to be desired, but you will be able to see one of my two new Rabbit Warriors holding guard over my Kingdom.Freyashawkhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00379748386863454385noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2998377519316030595.post-17297656330637891522011-02-02T17:36:00.001-08:002011-02-02T17:55:06.002-08:00Our Faith is not Misplaced... FK ResponseIf you read my post about the frustration that many veteran players are feeling with respect to the new Quests, you may have noticed that a response was made immediately by one of the developers of Fantasy Kingdoms. This sort of sensitivity to players' concerns and needs is one of the hallmarks of the people who are involved in the creation of this game.

Some months ago, many of us experienced a dark day in FK when the delightful little dancing lights that indicated an Enchantment were replaced by a blue outline on the square where the Crop had been planted. Those of us who invested in the Elixir to be able to Freeze our Crops in order to create a ballet of tiny dancing lights throughout our Kingdom were very unhappy with the change. For others, who had complained that the little lights were a distraction, the glow was a perfect solution.

What did the developers do when they became aware that there was a significant number of players who were not happy with the change? They gave us the option to CHOOSE between the glow and the tiny lights.

I have suggested that, in the case of the Quests for Beginners, we should be given the option to 'hide' the icons that denote these many Quests. It would be wonderful if we could receive some sort of official dispensation from the Quests entirely but if that is not possible, the option to hide them, much as one has the ability to hide the Neighbour bar, would be an excellent solution.

I hate to say it, but the makers of Fantasy Kingdoms have created a bit of a quandary for themselves by creating a game that is rich in artistic merit and therefore cannot be considered simply another farming simulation game. Many players like myself play this game primarily to create magical landscapes where we can enjoy visions of an ideal that may not be available to us in our real lives. When one is directed to plant 10 X Crop or to purchase a specific Castle, it may feel as though our marvelous freedom to exist in our ideal landscape has been taken from us. There are people who live in communities or condominiums in the 'real world' where they are told what colours to use in painting the exterior or what plants and trees they can have. Fantasy Kingdoms never was like that. It offered us total liberty to do as we pleased, to plant and gather the mature Crops or to plant and freeze our Crops, to build Castles and citadels or to create a wild, rambling wilderness instead. We await new Crops and items with excited anticipation but we never have been forced to USE them if we prefer something entirely different.

It is only recently that Fantasy Kingdoms has given us the option to have up to five separate Kingdoms. Perhaps the developers felt that every player surely would have one Kingdom that was undeveloped at this point, free to be used to complete these new Quests. I have to say that I was very amused to discover that I am not the only player who, having obtained five Kingdoms, immediately landscaped ALL of them! There is no free space waiting to be filled by the Quest Crops...Freyashawkhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00379748386863454385noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2998377519316030595.post-70495938379437251492011-02-02T08:01:00.000-08:002011-02-03T07:35:56.979-08:00List of new FK Quests and their RewardsIt is the 2nd day of February and in Fantasy Kingdoms, many players are striving mightily to complete all of the Quests that rather suddenly appeared in the upper left corner of their screens two days ago. Those players who have completed Quests in the past may have expected a short finite list with Rewards that would more than compensate them financially for any Mana they invested. Such, however, is not the case where many of these new Quests are concerned. When the Quest involves Crops, compensation will be sufficient, but where the Quest requires the purchase of Items, you should prepare to invest rather significantly if you intend to complete all of the new Quests.

Incidentally, I have been assured by the developers that there is no time-limit on these Quests. Those of us who felt that we had to move quickly on them were mistaken.

One problem with the new Quests potentially involves landscaping and space. Veteran players usually have a plan in mind with respect to their Kingdoms, whether they own one Kingdom or five. With a Theme for each Kingdom, many of the Quest Items, especially Crops, may not fit into any scheme that the player has visualised.

For players at lower levels, the problem may be space. If a player cannot afford to purchase new Kingdoms or even to expand existing Kingdoms, where on earth will he/she plant all of the Quest Crops and place all of the Items unless he/she is resigned to a cookie-cutter Kingdom that will resemble the kingdom of every other player performing the Quests? One of the great joys of Fantasy Kingdoms is the ability to create unique landscapes, even though players are using the same objects to do so.

Those players who still are interested in items from the Winter Collection, incidentally, only have seven more hours to purchase them before they disappear from the Marketplace. In these circumstances, some players may choose to purchase the lovely Blooming Snowflake Tree for 1400 Mana instead of completing the Golden Opportunity Quest that requires a purchase of 5 Golden Leaf Trees for 425 Mana each. Granted that the Golden Leaf Trees are a third of the price, but five of them will cost 2125 Mana, almost sufficient to purchase two of the Snowflake Blossom Trees. Other Trees that will vanish seven hours from now are the Glowing Pine for 5 KC and the Winter Pine for 1000 Mana.

Later: The Winter Collection now has been retired.

Incidentally, there are many players who, with 5 Kingdoms, do not have the space to accommodate these Quests and who have destroyed the concepts they had for their Kingdoms:

Here is one quote from a player:

B.W: I have run out of space, have 5 kingdoms and they all are trashed, looks like Hoarders from tv....lol

In my own Kingdoms, I tried to conceal the Chickens and Hens and the Eyes of Newt in particular from view by planting gorgeous Roses in front of them. The row of inappropriate plants felt like a dirty little secret planted in the very centre of my own private Eden. I did not want them there and I couldn't wait to harvest them.

Some players have purchased Minor Growth Elixir to speed the process of growth with respect to Crops they wished to remove from their doorsteps as quickly as possible. Unfortunately, when one lives in the real world on a very limited budget, investments in Kingdoms Cash are to be used judiciously and I would rather have some of the items I really adore than spend the money on an Elixir for Crops that do not appeal to me.

On the positive side, one of the developers has posted a comment on this site. I do have great faith in the creators of Fantasy Kingdoms and I believe that they will find a way to make these Quests less intrusive to the veteran players who would like to focus on the NEW items that titillate our senses and souls rather than being forced to plant Crops that do not fit into our personal themes or to purchase items that we own in triplicate perhaps...

For those who wish to know the cost of the Quests as well as their Rewards, I now have created a separate Page as there are quite a few of them! You will find the link on one of the tabs above this post.Freyashawkhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00379748386863454385noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2998377519316030595.post-90726202010667398692011-02-01T08:56:00.001-08:002011-02-01T09:04:50.865-08:00Preview of Valentine Items in Fantasy Kingdoms<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 224px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgJu0Gfsm51u66ApVRnW2FOli1MutNpyxpx9LESE4xhJ5veT-SzGXls8cgwHFUnY_OA5_Kqk0crG2QHmRs7jiB-Yk5Jw1SX4l49_hBz8q7ZLv5MpfkYfqaspQfOWvRR9-TZGK9PK8p0iA/s320/Valentine+Splash+Screen+FK.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5568766395324270178" />

**********************************************************************

The new splash screen from Fantasy Kingdoms, a preview of things to come. Perhaps there is no better time to start the new Quests, in view of the magnificence of the Items that will be released shortly. When is there a time when there are no new Items to explore???Freyashawkhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00379748386863454385noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2998377519316030595.post-47881705412672789332011-01-31T11:00:00.000-08:002011-01-31T11:09:16.456-08:00New Quests in Fantasy KingdomsAt the end of January 2011, Fantasy Kingdoms added a new Quest sequence primarily for beginners, although the Quests will appear in the upper left corner of every player's screen. For players who are not familiar with the game, the Quests will familiarise you with the system of infusing land, planting Magical Crops and harvesting them as well as purchasing Trees, Castles and Decorative Items from the Marketplace. The Quests include landscaping in the form of paths, water and water plants. Rewards do include a few Items that no longer are available in the Market, such as the Dryad Tree and the Silver Leaf Tree. Mana Rewards, however are very small and will not reimburse you for the amount of Mana spent in completing the Quests. Nonetheless, you will gain Experience Points and this will allow beginners to 'level up' faster and unlock new Crops.

For a veteran player, the Quests may be inconvenient, especially as they arrive at a time when many new Crops for St. Valentine's Day as well as a number of decorative Items have been released. Furthermore, the Winter Collection is about to be retired and I, for one, would prefer to use my Mana, space and energy on the Winter Items, Lunar New Year and St. Valentine's Day Items. From my own perspective, it is too bad that Sneaky Games did not delay the new Quests until the middle of February. There is no space to grow the mandated Crops for the Quests and they wreak havoc with my landscaping themes. The Quests, as they are completed, tend to multiply, taking up the left margin of the screen, ruining the view of my Kingdom. Anyway, I suppose they will be welcomed by new players if not by all of the players who have more than sufficient Country Castles, Wells and Stone Benches.Freyashawkhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00379748386863454385noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2998377519316030595.post-68212738710102374262011-01-26T07:19:00.000-08:002011-01-29T13:59:53.108-08:00Being a Good NeighbourThis post may be more useful to beginners than veteran players, but even an individual like myself who has been playing Fantasy Kingdoms for many months sometimes discovers that she has misinterpreted gameplay options.

In your initial tutorial from Harmony, you will be instructed in the manner in which you can visit each Neighbour on a daily basis to enchant a total of five of his/her Crops as well as ridding the Kingdom of a randomly specified number of pests. This provides your Neighbour with the benefit of Enchantment and provides you with some income and often a Reagent for Spellcrafting. Visiting Harmony offers an additional reward in the form of the Wishing Well which has a five-day cycle, giving more valuable Gifts each day until a new cycle begins.

As in Farmville, you can enchant any infused plot even if a Crop has not been planted yet. What beginners may not realise initially is that you can provide an even more valuable service sometimes to a Neighbour if he/she has allowed any Crops to become bewitched. You can choose to unbewitch five Crops rather than enchanting five others, or can divide your allotted actions between enchantments and unbewitchments.

The developers of Fantasy Kingdoms never allow the grass to grow beneath their feet in creative terms and add new options to the game constantly. Fairly recently, the option to publish an announcement of a new purchase from the Marketplace was added to the game. It was here that I made an error in comprehending the purpose of these announcement. To me, it smacked too much of bragging, especially when the Item purchased required Kingdoms Cash rather than Mana. I am not the only player who cannot afford to buy Kingdoms Cash very often and I felt that it was not very kind to brag of any new Items I had purchased with my supply of Kingdoms Cash.

Of course, the primary reason for offering this option is to advertise the game and the Items that are available in the Marketplace. Even regular players may not be aware of every Item that currently is for sale. Where other players are concerned, however, such an Announcement offers a potential monetary benefit. You will be awarded 150 Mana if you are the first player to click on an Announcement of this sort.
A player who purchases a new Item therefore will be a good Neighbour if he/she posts the Announcement on Facebook.Freyashawkhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00379748386863454385noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2998377519316030595.post-45464583231770167442011-01-18T07:27:00.000-08:002011-01-21T07:51:05.957-08:00Ramblings on LandscapingIf you are looking for game tips, this post will not be of any interest to you, but you will find the link to my Guide to Fantasy Kingdoms above this post.

A wonderful freedom and the potential to find new horizons has been granted to me by the new option to have up to five different kingdoms in Fantasy Kingdoms. Hitherto, having expanded my one Kingdom to the largest possible size, I felt constrained at a certain point by the amount of items I had collected and the Crops I had frozen, making them a permanent part of my landscape.

With the ability to have five different Kingdoms, I now am able to focus on colours and themes in a manner that was difficult when one had to coordinate one quarter of a single kingdom with the rest. What has emerged is a new consciousness of my own taste and personality and if hesitant sometimes, an ability to 'grow' in my appreciation of colours and tones that are not my own personal favourites.

For example, I have been working on a Kingdom that is dominated by golds and browns. It is not an 'Autumn' Kingdom, but one that is centred on the Medieval Buildings that still can be crafted or purchased. Sadly, a period of inaction in Fantasy Kingdoms occurred during the time when the Medieval buildings were released, so I am restricted to the items from that Theme that remain now in the Marketplace or still can be crafted. Probably just as well, as real financial restrictions must be recalled each time I am tempted to purchase Kingdoms Cash. To do so would amount to real ruin at this point!

Unlike some players, however, I would be more than happy to purchase Kingdoms Cash when my budget permits in an effort to support this fabulous game. In terms of 'gaming', it may not be as deep or detailed as Harvest Moon but it does allow me to explore my artistic sense. It reminds me of a period in my life when I designed one-of-a-kind items of clothing using the finest silks, velvet, cotton, linen and embroidery I could find. I love textiles but ultimately the project was doomed mainly because I had to rely on other people to sew the garments and those who asked for work were rather inferior and careless seamstresses who moreover took advantage of my friendship with them as well as my compassionate nature. Nevertheless, the experience fulfilled a deep artistic need within me and Fantasy Kingdoms allows me to satisfy some of the same urges, although I am not as good at virtual landscaping as I was with textiles and dress design.

Fantasyt Kingdoms has released an Ice Theme at a time in real life when we are in the throes of a rather severe winter. Although my personal taste runs towards the 'cool' colours and tones rather than oranges and gold, I find myself drawn to the 'warm' tones as cold penetrates my bones. Creating kingdoms that are dominated by golds and browns warms the soul and lends an illusion of warmth to the body as well!

Many of the Winter Wonderland items, including the Snowflake Crop, are exquisite in their delicacy. Having seen the Ice Queen statue in an advertisement for future attractions, I could not wait for her to be released. The Ice Phoenix and Ice Phoenix Tree are amazingly beautiful and magical. The new Ice Castle, on the other hand, is very 'blocky', reminding me more of solid cubes of ice than the delicate tracery of snowflakes. Initially, I doubted that it ever would be a personal favourite of mine, even though I was crafting the two buildings in the Ice Theme. I should imagine that I am not the only player to recognise the overtly phallic nature of the turrets and towers. It is not the phallic nature of these buildings that makes them less appealing to me but their stockiness. They remind me of the Shadow Theme more than any of the others.

After working with the Ice Theme for a few days, however, I realised that the concept worked aesthetically. It was 'Ice' rather than 'Water', albeit ruled by the same Elemental Spirit and Ice is rather solid. Furthermore, it was evident that the buildings were intended to portray the castles of an underwater kingdom to some extent. Many of the decorative Items in the Ice Theme as well as the 'Creatures' caught my fancy even before they were released. The Ice Phoenix is a particularly fey and enchanting creature, as mentioned previously.

Frozen streams and waterfalls are marvelous additions to the landscape with ice shards and stalagmites. Purples and blues are favourite tones of mine and the entire Ice Theme is centred on these colours, although blues dominate.

In creating landscapes in Fantasy Kingdoms and Farmville, I have become self-aware in a way that I never was in the past. Where other players cheerfully demolish existing landscapes to create new ones, I find myself unable to act with the same freedom. I realise now that this is due to a fundamental lack of security in my own life. I never had a permanent room of my own as a child. In fact, I came home once at an impressionable age to discover that 'home' had become a different house. My family never asked my opinion and I had no part in choosing the new home. Each time I left home, I had no idea whether or not I'd have a room of my own when I returned. As a very young child, I lived mainly in hotels. They were first-class hotels, but temporary residences nonetheless. I moved from place to place with my parents as a very young child and the fact that my mother left my father rather frequently made the situation even less secure. It was a very interesting and exciting childhood, but it wasn't one that had much security attached to it.

Even now, I do not have a place that I truly can consider my own. This no doubt is why I become so attached to my 'virtual' homes and do not wish to demolish them entirely even when they are imperfect. Sometimes this trait of mine exasperates me. In real life, I am exasperated by my excessively sentimental attachment to things that other people would toss in the rubbish without a second though. Ah well, there could be worse flaws, I imagine... Still, it occurs to me that modifying character traits in virtual realities could result in some modification in real life.

Of all the Themes, the two that are my favourites are the Halo and Fantasy Themes. Having the ability to create five different Kingdoms now does allow a player to explore ALL the seasons or all of the Themes with greater freedom than before.Freyashawkhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00379748386863454385noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2998377519316030595.post-1578759116962666352011-01-13T06:28:00.000-08:002011-01-13T06:45:43.123-08:00Quick Answers to the Most Common QuestionsFirst of all, there is a tab at the top of this page that leads to my actual Walkthrough/Guide for Fantasy Kingdoms. Posts such as these should not be confused with the actual Guide. Here, however, are some quick answers to the most common questions:

1. How do I change Snow Terrain back to Grass Terrain?

Answer: Go to Upgrades. You will see the option to purchase Grass Terrain for 500 Mana. If your Terrain is Grass and you wish to change it to Snow, you will find an option to purchase Snow Terrain for 1000 Mana in the Upgrades Menu.

Note: Transforming your terrain to Snow originally was one of the Quests in the Holiday Quest sequence. Those Quests no longer exist, but Ice/Water is one of the Fantasy Kingdoms Elementals and thus, it is possible to transform your entire landscape to Snow in honour of the Ice Elemental Guardian.

2. How do I rid my land of Crops or Infused Land that I no longer want?

Answer: There is a Whirlwind Icon in the pull-down Tools Menu that will allow you to 'sell' infused Land, uninfused squares and any other Item on your Kingdom. Note that you can simply click on Items to find a Sell option but land that has been infused (whether still infused or left after a crop has been gathered) can be 'sold' only by using the Whirlwind Icon.

3. How do I move Infused Land?

Answer: In the past, you could not move Infused Land but had to delete it or 'sell' it by using the Whirlwind Icon. Now, you actually can Move it by using the Directional Arrows Cross Tool in the pull-down Tool Menu. This Tool has arrows pointing in all four directions. When equipped, you can Move anything, including Items, Buildings, Infused Land and Land where Crops are growing.

4. Where do I find Spellcasting Ingredients?

Spellcasting is a fairly new option in Fantasy Kingdoms. Most Spells require three separate Ingredients. One of these usually is a special Coin. Methods for obtaining these Ingredients are as follows:
Free Gifts;
Daily Fortune;
Mystery Gifts;
Tending your own Kingdom by gathering Crops or harvesting from Trees and Artifacts;
Tending a Neighbour's Land (including Harmony's Kingdom) by ridding it of Pests and/or enchanting Crops;
Obtaining an Ingredient that is 'shared' in a Facebook Feed. Your Neighbours and Friends usually will post Fantasy Kingdoms Rewards, which will allow you to obtain Mana as well as special reward Items that include Ingredients for Spellcasting.Freyashawkhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00379748386863454385noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2998377519316030595.post-1087642569670566102011-01-11T11:13:00.001-08:002011-01-17T07:25:19.754-08:00New Spellcrafting Item in Fantasy Kingdoms<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgocPxa4P46cTW4_zxcZBXLcRFKQ75BnKrhyphenhyphenySoMCvfumqIiKF11nZnFGN3z8UoAkuXO36bSRgCJkR7Ae6cR7wGcvL4RFiINUaRrUVfTQAosQX42k6jg1YGSCcrNMimQxiSZmT7xyvWt9M/s320/Ice+Queen+Statue.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5561016171018082514" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 278px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhYosoXew6Qel31iqA-PJvGnhfgOVf0RbtbJPcjJq8tAXC77wQVPERfvPN7xhmJUZISLHfFFu2Nh1QNKE-2BrvzupM9nIwuXqkHUM5jEf0CduYbggYk3-05O_qyc-MVugjoK6xR-l8YYvs/s320/Amber+Shard.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5561015805498842402" />
***************************************************************************
New to Fantasy Kingdoms is the very enchanting Ice Queen Statue who can be purchased in the Marketplace for 9 KC or created in a new Spell that requires 5 Amber Shards, 15 Aurora Crystals and 1 Winter Coin.

Aurora Crystals are a new Free Gift that can be sent to other players. Amber Shards appear to be found solely in Mystery Gifts which, incidentally now often hold Limited Edition Holiday Items that no longer are available in the Marketplace. Among these are the Small Snowflake and the White Lights.

Winter Coins can be obtained via the Daily Fortune from Harmony.

The advertisement for the new Winter Magic Statues declares that the 'Ice Queen can also be crafted with Reagents gifted from your friends or found on your Kingdom' and I finally was able to obtain an Amber Shard by gathering Mana from Artifacts and Trees on my Kingdom.

The creators of Fantasy Kingdoms have been extremely busy during the past couple of months. Christmas Items and Landscapes were followed by special New Year creations. As soon as the New Year Items were 'retired', new WInter Magic Items appeared.

Despite the fact that the climate in which I live has been rather brutally cold recently, I still delight in the Winter Wonderland landscapes of Fantasy Kingdoms. Frozen waterfalls and streams and a frozen lake are among the natural landscape items that can be used to create a snowbound Kingdom using the Snow Terrain. The fact that five Kingdoms now can be owned by a single player means that players can have Kingdoms that are ruled by every season.

Later: A new Limited Edition Crop was released this evening in the form of Snowflakes. It costs 45 Mana, takes one day to mature, yields 160 Mana and 2 XP AND, according to a new announcement, drops 'Winter Reagents'. I suspect this is the other source of the Amber Shards that are needed for the Ice Queen Statue.Freyashawkhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00379748386863454385noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2998377519316030595.post-5345144057234399052010-12-31T06:22:00.001-08:002010-12-31T06:41:47.179-08:00Fantasy Kingdoms New Year Celebrations<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 193px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKJshAi2a3IzP7unaUZHN6vjY10oyyZ9bkMiTGYHW3VLeZ1Mz0fugMDvzxSYj7IqVZAi-wqBn_0UTyVtZfqpBYioQtPGPO6WloFMNKUxWxTHsikFepQCUiIGZC4cmhoXrIzqHIj9c03KI/s320/Starburst+announcement.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5556856620943637794" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 208px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_WfiGyyaD2y4FNrn5BOUJdwSZHB55fuJ0k5Z-hyzZf5i-M5-3bcdTr8otD9R5eHhSz9jBkAKkvDDmK_pCP-pbc2-MwHyAYdeZBjo3XK194hIeN4L77zEfv-rl1ui4WddlmQKOs2rd8YE/s320/Starburst+Spell.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5556856411651849474" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 202px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1i3VT-oqusk376tZbkiY_b8qca9QOJMU2x02HjGs6H5RgvP555kVdJLgWtS7HNWQbtRt1dSqnYlVCXtqijPNPTA_g8Uc3lMpHkAMXrRrBlQtS6XmgPYUNrZeb9h-9zVHR60p2IbNr7As/s320/Sands+of+Time+Autumn+view.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5556856229558182162" />
*****************************************************************************
The creators of Fantasy Kingdoms, like those of Farmville, have been exceedingly busy this holiday season and, after an incredible array of Christmas items, have released some special items for the New Year.

First and foremost is the new Sands of Time Artifact, available in the Marketplace for 14 Kingdoms Cash. You can purchase 22 Kingdoms Cash for $5.00, if you have not earned it in the course of ordinary gameplay or, having earned it, spent it on other bewitching items.

Although all Crops and Artifacts have different stages of 'growth', the Sands of Time Artifact is unique in that it progresses through all four Seasons in the space of twelve hours. It is a particularly good investment as it delivers 1600 Mana every 12 Hours and rewards the buyer with 10 XP. If you study the list of Artifacts in the Walkthrough, you will see that the Sands of Time is one of the best investments at this point in time.

A new Spell is available as well to ring in the New Year with a display of Fireworks:

Starburst Fireworks
Two Vials of Stardust and Two Phoenix Fire will give your friends a sight to admire. Unite them with a Magic Coin you hold dear, and ring in the majesty of the New Year! You have until January 4th to complete this Spell.

The Phoenix Fire and the Vial of Stardust are available as Free Gifts from friends and Neighbours. The Magic Coin can be obtained as a Daily Fortune randomly from Harmony or purchased in the Marketplace for 1 KC. The Starburst Fireworks will be placed in your Gift Box. First choose the 'Use' Option to place it somewhere on your land and then 'Activate' to see the special effects. It is not a 'single use' item but will continue to display bursts of light until you deactivate it!Freyashawkhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00379748386863454385noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2998377519316030595.post-60282032460279921682010-09-08T18:11:00.000-07:002010-09-08T18:50:50.401-07:00Treasure Chests in Fantasy KingdomsTreasure Chests are sold as Decorations for 10 KC and indeed can be placed and used as decorations in your Kingdom as they are quite beautiful. As I am not an expert in creating websites but am and always will be primarily a writer, I have decided that an easy solution for those who wish to view the guide in its entirety would be to set it in a single post. Here then is the complete IGN Fantasy Kingdoms Guide, under revision as I write this as there have been some changes in prices and items:

Fantasy Kingdoms Facebook Game Guide

by Freyashawk

Created on 1 July 2010
Last Updated on 13 September 2010

Note by Freyashawk: You can see my review and some screenshots of the game at:

http://fantasykingdomsfreyashawk.blogspot.com

Introduction

Fantasy Kingdoms is a farming simulation game on Facebook. As with any of the games on Facebook, its primary goal, apart from entertaining users and sustaining their interest is to encourage social networking. It is a free game and definitely is worth exploring if you appreciate farming, fantasy, folk magic and folk myth.

As a player, your primary goal is to expand and improve your Kingdom by growing Crops, Trees, adding buildings and other structures as well as Creatures, Pets and landscaping in the form of artifacts and decorations. To do any of this, you need Mana. Mana is a concept familiar to most players of traditional RPGs and can be translated loosely as 'Energy'. Unlike combat games like Castle Age, however, Mana is currency as well as the energy needed to cast spells. Any sort of Farming in Fantasy Kingdoms is a form of Spellcasting. Whenever you till the soil, plant seeds, you use Mana. When you harvest grown Crops or 'Fruits' from Trees or tend your buildings and artifacts, you gain Mana.

Crop Seeds in the form of Magic Potions are very beautiful and creative, combining traditional Northern European folk magic and medicine with wit. Seeds available in the very early stages of the game include Cattails, Fresia, Sunflowers, Foxgloves and Chickens and Hens.

The Foxgloves and Fresias resemble the actual medicinal flowers in the real world, but Sunflowers are exquisite sun lamps that grow and 'blossom' into full suns when ready to be harvested. Spider Flowers are crops that grow spider webs. Fantasy Crops that do not exist in the real world include Eye of Newt with blossoms in the form of eyes.

Neighbours can visit your Kingdom to perform small tasks for you and to enchant your Crops so that they grow larger and have more potential to yield special items when harvested. You can succeed in your game without a large number of neighbours, however. In this respect, the game differs from other Facebook games such as Castle Age or Yoville, where the number of individuals you persuade to join the game affects your earnings and success.

Although there are some strategy considerations in playing Fantasy Kingdoms to maximise your income and use of your land, the real nature of this game in my view is to participate and shape an incredible work of art in the creation of a world based on traditional fairytale and myth. For players who are drawn to fantasy and legend, the game is sheer delight. The fact that there are no limits on the number of gifts that can be exchanged between friends and neighbours on Facebook makes it easy to derive significant pleasure in the ability to landscape the Kingdom you are given even at the very start of the game and at low Levels of experience. Although there is a limit of 22 Gifts that can be initiated by the player to send to others, there is no limit to the 'thank you gifts' that can be returned to other players.

Fantasy Kingdoms is made by Sneaky Games in Austin, Texas. The makers obviously invest energy in updating and improving the gaming experience of players involved in Fantasy Kingdoms. So far, new items have been added every few days in every Category, including Free Gifts. A Screenshot Competition has been held and the winners received monetary awards.

Currency in Fantasy Kingdoms

There are two forms of currency in Fantasy Kingdoms. One is Mana and the other is Kingdom Cash, abbreviated as KC in this Guide. Kingdom Cash can be purchased with real money by credit/debit card or even through PayPal but you will earn Kingdom Cash as well as Mana in the course of gameplay.

Fantasy Kingdoms is less aggressive than many of the other games on Facebook in attempting to persuade you to 'add' friends to the game. Although you can send an unlimited number of free gifts to your neighbours and visit their farms in order to 'enchant' their Crops and aid them in other tasks, you can pursue your game alone without many interruptions. In this respect, I found it refreshing and less commercial. Unfortunately, like almost ALL the games on Facebook, it does include external links on a separate page to businesses where you can earn Kingdoms Cash by subscribing to the services offered there. These include subscriptions to periodicals, Disney DVD clubs and so on.

Although one of the goals a player should have is to play these games without being forced to invest real money in them, 'free' games cost money to produce and players who truly love a game should be willing to invest some money in it when they are able to do so.

The cost of Kingdoms Cash is as follows:

19 Kingdoms Cash: $4.99
39 Kingdoms Cash: $9.99
79 Kingdoms Cash: $19.99
199 Kingdom Cash: $49.99
399 Kingdoms Cash: $99.99
799 Kingdoms Cash: $199.99

If you study the price lists of the items at the Market, you will see that 19 Kingdoms Cash can buy quite a number of items. An investment of $4.99 really is not outrageous expense for a game that is clever and very beautiful in terms of its graphics.

Converting Kingdoms Cash to Mana

Although you can purchase only Kingdoms Cash with real money, you can convert Kingdoms Cash into Mana once it has been purchased. It is far better to earn the Mana through gameplay if you can be patient and determined.

In Fantasy Kingdoms, the Market often will list the same item twice, once with a Kingdoms Cash price and the second time with a price in Mana points. You therefore have a choice in many cases to purchase an item either by trading real money for it or by earning it.

Earning Mana

One of the main goals as a player of Fantasy Kingdoms is to earn sufficient Mana to be able to invest in all the landscaping items, Crops and Trees that one desires. There are a few methods of doing this.

The easiest and quickest method of earning Mana is by tilling the soil and planting Seeds in the form of Magic Potions purchased from the Market. Here the strategy is the same for all farming simulation games on Facebook. Your success or failure somewhat is determined by your own knowledge of your online schedule and your ability to match appropriate Crops to that schedule.

All Crops have definite time limits for growth and harvest. If you do not harvest them fairly quickly once they are fully developed, they will be lost. In traditional Farming games like Farmville and Farm Town, the Crops wither and die. In Fantasy Kingdoms, they become 'bewitched', which amounts to the same thing.

There are some similarities to Harvest Moon in these games in that you have the freedom to grow whatever you wish, but a basic knowledge and interest in mathematics will be to your advantage. An ability to tell time is essential.

However much a Crop may appeal to you, it would be counterproductive to plant it if you are not going to be able to harvest it when it is fully developed. Crops that take only a few hours to grow should not be planted before you go to bed for the night obviously, as you will find them all bewitched when you return to your kingdom the next day.

If you can afford to spend a little time on the game at the very start, it may be worth the effort to buy the fast-growing Fresia that is ready for harvest in 4 hours. If you plant and harvest that a few times, your Levels will increase rapidly and you will be able to unlock a wider variety of Crops.

The Attraction of Catnip

Catnip is the fastest-growing Crop in Fantasy Kingdoms but may be a Limited Edition. It was added to the Potions List for a very brief period, but was re-introduced in the second half of August 2010.

Catnip
Cost: 5 Mana
Harvest in 10 Minutes
XP Gain: 1
Yield: 25 Mana
Available at Level 1

Prior to the introduction of Catnip, Fresia was the fastest-growing Crop. Catnip offers new players a golden opportunity to increase their levels rapidly. A player who grows Catnip for a living must remain in his/her Fantasy Kingdom almost constantly as a Crop that takes only 10 minutes to mature will bewitch in 10 Minutes as well!

Easy Profits

In most of the Facebook games, you can send only one gift to any individual per day. In Fantasy Kingdoms, although there is a limit of 22 Free Gifts that can be sent to other players unsolicited, there is no limit to the number of gifts you can send as 'thank you gifts' to other players. Furthermore, of the 22 Gift Requests that be made daily, there are no restrictions as to the number that can be sent to a single individual. All of these gifts can be used or sold. I have included resale prices for the various items that can be sent as Gifts. Once you have obtained all the items you need for your Kingdom, you can ask a friend to send Gifts in the form of the items that are worth the most when sold. You then can augment your farming income by selling duplicate items.

The Value of Trees

Crops in any Farming Simulation game on Facebook usually are subject to strict time limits but Trees provide profit without any restrictions. They tend to take longer to grow to the point where the fruits can be harvested but if you cannot access your farm or kingdom for a few days, you will find that the ripe fruit still can be harvested upon your return. In Fantasy Kingdoms, Trees usually will yield a harvest in 3 to 5 days, depending on the species. Here as with the Crops, traditional Northern folk magic has been combined with creative wit. Ash, Rowan and Weeping Willow Trees share this world with the mythical Phoenix Tree and Gold Leaf and Silver Leaf Trees. Even more fantastic are the Dryad and Ghost Trees.

Artifacts are magical items that can be harvested for Mana as well. They include the Unicorn Topiary, an item now given to new players when they first enter their Kingdoms.

At Level 1, quite a few Crop Seeds are available in the form of Cattails, Eye of Newt, Fresia and Magic Beans. Some Limited Edition Crops, such as Sunflowers and Wolfberry no longer are available.

Items fall into one of two general categories in Fantasy Kingdoms. They either produce Mana or they are strictly decorative. Crops and Trees produce Mana, as do Artifacts such as Stonehenge. Buildings such as Castles and Towers and some plants that once would have been called 'eye candy' do not produce any Mana whatsoever.

Any item that produces Mana (both energy and currency) does so in a specific period of time. Crops can be planted only on tilled soil. To till the soil or 'enchant' it, you can use either the Arrow/Multi-Tool or the Magic Wand/Stick. If you have not enchanted the soil, you will not be able to use any Seeds on it.

After harvesting any Crop, you must till the soil again before replanting. An interesting aspect of the game is that the name of the Crop that was last harvested on the square will appear when you access the untilled square. I am not certain why this occurs or what the significance of it may be.

The Nature of Artifacts

Artifacts are extremely interesting. They are items that go through cycles of construction once you purchase them and place them in your Kingdom. For example, when Stonehenge is placed on the land, you must wait one day for it to be completed. When it is 'ready', you can click on it to harvest 1300 Mana, a significant amount! You then need to click on it again and use 100 Mana to 'empower' it to begin its cycle afresh. When you do so, it will collapse completely and then slowly 'grow' into its finished form over the course of the next 24 hours.

Some Artifacts, including the Unicorn Topiary, are not quite so dramatic in their effects as they mature. Whatever the Artifact, however, it provides steady income in your Kingdom as long as you remember to 'harvest' the Mana and then empower the item again.

Initial Resources

You begin the game with the following items:

Wizard's Tower
Sell for 100 Mana
Building

Wild Grass:
Sell for 5 Mana
Decoration

Stone Bench
Sell for 5 Mana
Decoration

Rowan Tree
Sell for 5 Mana
Tree

Enchanted Tree
Sell for 35 Mana
Tree

Unicorn Topiary
Sell for 100 Mana
Artifact

Toadstool Chair Purple
Sell for 20 Mana
Decoration

Click Use to place any item on your Land. You then can click on it to obtain a Wheel Menu that will allow you to Move it, Rotate it or Sell it.

Before you access your Gift Box, you will find six tilled Squares on your land.

Furthermore, both the Enchanted Tree and the Rowan Tree are ready to be harvested for Mana. You can obtain 18 Mana from the Rowan Tree and 70 Mana from the Enchanted Tree. The Unicorn Topiary likewise is ready for harvest for 240 Mana.

You begin the game at Level 1: School Drop Out. As soon as you have dealt with your initial resources and purchased some Cattails to plant on the existing squares, your experience should take you to Level 2: Slinger. Each increase in Level unlocks new Items. Often you will receive Gifts when you reach a new Level as well.

Apart from being rewarded for increasing your Experience to the next Level, there is a Daily Fortune that will award you a random number of Coins and a chance to find Mana when you work in your Kingdom or aid a Neighbour. Bonus points are more likely whenever you harvest Crops that have been enchanted by a Neighbour. Enchantment is the equivalent of Fertiliser in the ordinary farming world.

Charms

Apart from an increase in Levels, there are Charms that can be earned by your own actions. There are five Categories of Charms and four Charms in each Category. The Categories are:

Blessed Enchanter
This Charm is granted for kindly Enchanting Neighbour's Kingdoms
1st Charm awarded at 200 visits

Big Spender
Spending Mana in the Market earns this prestigious Charm

Arbourist in Residence
Arbourists receive this CHarm for planting Magical Trees from the Market

Mana Master
Presented to those magicians that have Collected amazing amounts of Mana

Spellbound
Amazing amounts of spellcasting earn this well-respected Charm

As in any of the Facebook farming simulation games, you can earn rewards by visiting and aiding your Neighbours as well as by performing specific actions on your own land.

You begin the game with one Neighbour in the form of Harmony. Harmony is more than a construct for a game tutorial. She is a real Neighbour whom you can visit daily. Her Kingdom includes a Wishing Well that will grant a Wish to her visitors each day.

It is useful to note the actions that produce these Awards as each Award is accompanied by rewards in the form of Mana, Experience points and often an Item Gift as well.

Visiting and Aiding Your Neighbours

Unlike Farmville, there are no items that remain locked unless you have acquired a specific number of Neighbours in Fantasy Kingdoms. You can earn Mana and Charms, however, by visiting your Neighbours on a daily basis.

When you visit a Neighbour, provided always that it is your first visit of the day, a little Quest or Task will appear, wherein your Neighbour requests your aid. Invasions of Monstrous Toads, Venomous Serpents or the ravages of heavy winds are some of the colourful situations that you will encounter on a Neighbour's land. You simply need to click on the invaders or the effects to dissipate them. You then will be given an opportunity to 'enchant' or fertilise five squares of tilled soil. As in Farmville, you can enchant/fertilise tilled land that remains unplanted. Any Crop that has been enchanted will grow larger and more beautiful than the same Crop if unfertilised. You can 'find' extra Mana when harvesting Enchanted Crops.

You will earn +30 Mana and +8 XP when you complete the Task that has been set at any Neighbour's Kingdom. You will not gain a reward for partial completion of the Task.

You will earn +5 Mana and +1 XP for each Crop that you Enchant when visiting a Neighbour's Kingdom, apart from any Bonus that you obtain or find.

A player without any other Neighbours begins the game with Harmony as his/her Neighbour.

Harmony's Wishing Well

Harmony is your 'in-game' default Neighbour in Fantasy Kingdoms and you can visit her as you would any other Neighbour to gain a small reward for dispelling the mischief caused by intruders and possibly enchanting her Crops, if any remain unenchanted.

Recently, she installed a Wishing Well in the centre of her Kingdom. If you visit it daily, you can receive a Reward each day. Rewards are progressively more valuable if you do not miss a day. The usual Reward for the first Wish is 100 Mana. More valuable rewards include large sums of Mana such as 1000 Mana or even a Country House.

When you are prompted to 'visit each day', you must be aware of the fact that, very much like an Artifact, the Wishing Well begins at 0% as soon as your Wish is completed and takes 24 hours to reach 100% again. In other words, the 'next day' will be counted as 24 hours from the time when you visited previously. Wait too long and you are likely to receive only 100 Mana again.

Note that the Wishing Well is an additional reward that is given to visitors of Harmony's Kingdom. There is a regular daily reward in coins from your 'Daily Fortune'.

Spellcrafting

A new option in Fantasy Kingdoms is Spellcrafting.

An Announcement was made a couple of days ago:

By the winds of Fate, Harmony brings new powers in answer to your pleas. Follow the steps below and you will find you can store more things with ease. 'Rarest Scales of the Blue Dragon woven together with purest Copper Lace, a Silver Magic Coin finishes the spell, to keep everything in its place.' Your friends can find the Dragon Scales along with the Copper Ore, but Harmony grants the Magic Coin, so be on the lookout for more.

This Spell when Crafted will expand your Storage +5.

You should receive the Magic Coin needed for the Spell from the Game automatically. Blue Dragon Scales and Copper Ore are Free Gifts that can be sent by Neighbours. You need 15 of each to craft the spell.

Whenever you receive an Item that is used in Spellcrafting and choose to use it from your Gift Box, it will be moved to a special storage box.

Spellcrafting:

Your Magic Coin has been moved from your Gift Box to your Reagents Storage.

Bewitched Crops

If you do not harvest your Crops within the grace period allowed to them after they become ready for harvesting, they will become Bewitched. Until you reach Level 4, Harmony, your game-generated Neighbour, will shield your Kingdom with her protective powers to prevent Crops from becoming Bewitched, but once you reach Level 4, you will be forced to deal with the consequences of any neglect or tardiness.

There is a price to pay for allowing your Crops to become Bewitched. Although you will gain +1 XP for each Bewitched Crop that you clear from the land, you will be forced to pay +15 Coins for the action. Clearing a Bewitched Crop from a square automatically infuses it for the next planting, however, so it is not a total loss.

Advanced Knowledge of Plants

A very interesting development in Fantasy Kingdoms is the ability to see the precise amount of time that remains before any fully-ripened Crop will become Bewitched. The information will appear when you pass your cursor over any Crop that is ready for harvest, but you will not be given access to this information at lower Levels.

At Level 5, when Harmony's Protective Spell that prevents any of your Crops from being Bewitched no longer is in effect, you will gain this 'new' power.

Strategies in Landscaping

One of the goals in any Farming Simulation game is landscaping or design. You can landscape your Farm or Kingdom with an aesthetic aim or you can maximise the amount of income that the land will generate. Fantasy Kingdoms is no different in this respect.
As in other games, you can expand or upgrade your Kingdom by obtaining more land.

Some players use items such as Trees as building blocks to create patterns or designs without really displaying any Tree individually. Others, including me, try to create a real landscape that shows the Trees to advantage as much as possible. It really is a matter of personal choice, although a player who wishes to be able to purchase an expensive building or item without investing real money in the game probably will opt to 'stack' their Trees. Stacking Trees and other items that produce Mana can create interesting abstract designs. They can be used to create pictures as well. I have seen a kingdom that was designed in the form of a dragon.

There is one strategic reason, apart from obtaining large amounts of Mana, for stacking your Trees on a temporary basis at least. When you have a specific number of items on your land, you can earn new levels of Awards in any Farming Simulation game. Trees placed on your Land are linked to the Arbourist in Residence Award.

Treasure Chests are sold as Decorations for 10 KC and indeed can be placed and used as decorations in your Kingdom as they are quite beautiful. They are designed to be opened, however, as they contain unique items that cannot be obtained in any other manner.

Among the items one can obtain in a Treasure Chest are:

Mermaid Fountain:
Category: Decoration
Can be activated as a fountain but does not produce Mana

Barn Owl
Category: Creature
Sell for 500 Mana

Portal Winds
Category: Artifact
Yields: 500 Mana
Empower for 100 Mana
Sell for 400 Mana

Tower Ruins
Category: Building or Decoration
Sell for 350 Mana

Tree of the Fallen
Category: Decoration
Can be activated like a lamp but does not produce Mana
Sell for 650G

Market Lists

The first category of item to be listed at the Market are Magic Potions, equivalent to Seeds in other farming games. Note that some of the items that have not been unlocked will appear even at the start of the game, with a notation as to Level requirements fo unlocking them, but others simply will be added to the Market menu when you have reached specific levels of Experience. There are surprises to be found, therefore, at the Market as you increase in Levels. Furthermore, the actual order of the items in the Menu may change a little according to your Character's Level. New Items are added to the game frequently and this Guide will be updated to include them whenever possible.

Magic

The first category in the Marketplace is Magic and is comprised of three different types of items: Potions (Seeds), Elixirs (Magic for Crops) and Artifacts. After clicking on the partially grown plants and flowers, they will magically be ready to Gather!

This is a power that would be used primarily by artists who are attempting to create a specific effect with their landscaping and may not be able to wait for the natural schedule of the Crops to be completed.

The Unbewitch Elixir, again in the words of the game, 'can be used to restore the magic to Bewitched plants and flowers. Click tiles that are currently Bewitched to restore them. The Unbewitch Elixir does not protect plants and flowers from becoming bewitched again.

The Elixir sold in the Marketplace is the 'Minor Unbewitch' Elixir. It is possible that the 'Major Unbewitch Elixir' would protect Crops from becoming Bewitched in the future as well, but such an Elixir is not to be found in the Marketplace at present.

The 'Freeze' Elixir may be the most popular of all. It freezes the growth of any Crop and prevents it from becoming Bewitched. You can freeze a Crop at any stage of growth. If you wish to create landscaping effects using newly planted 'Potion' Seeds as well as Crops in different stages of growth, the Freeze Elixir is the one to use.

Each Elixir contains 45 single Uses.

Artifacts

Fairy Bloom
Cost: 16 KC
Harvest in 1 Day
XP Gain: 10
Yield: 1500 Mana

Dragon Cage
Cost: 15 KC
Harvest in 12 Hours
XP Gain: 5
Yield: 1100 Mana
Mausoleum
Cost: 27 KC
Harvest in 4 Days
XP Gain: 6
Yield: 315 Mana

Stonehenge
Cost: 20 KC
Harvest in 1 Day
XP Gain: 12
Yield: 1300 Mana

Unicorn Topiary
Cost: 2000 Mana
Harvest in 8 hours
XP Gain: 2
Yield: 200 Mana

Celestial Sphere
Cost: 18 KC
Harvest in 8 Hours
XP Gain: 7
Yield: 300 Mana
Unlock at Level 10

Fallen Star
Cost: 19 KC
Harvest in 18 Hours
XP Gain: 5
Yield: 800 Mana
Unlock at Level 10

Mystic Mine:
Cost: 20 KC
Harvest in 18 Hours
XP Gain: 6
Yield: 1800 Mana
Unlock at Level 15

Cinnabar Mine
Cost: 17 KC
Harvest in 12 Hours
XP Gain: 5
Yield: 1200 Mana
Unlock at Level 15

Pyramid of the Sun:
Cost: 22 KC
Harvest in 8 Hours
XP Gain: 6
Yield: 1700 Mana
Unlock at Level 15Freyashawkhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00379748386863454385noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2998377519316030595.post-84308657991995336912010-08-23T09:42:00.000-07:002010-08-23T10:02:08.715-07:00This is an Open-Ended GuideWhen I first encountered Fantasy Kingdoms, I was astounded by the beauty of the graphics and decided to write a little guide to promote the game and introduce it to new users. I then decided to create a separate website for it.

Since that time, Fantasy Kingdoms has expanded enormously and both this website and my IGN guide need to be updated. As the game itself is undergoing constant expansions, this Guide will be open-ended to some extent.

I am working at present on an interview with the Fantasy Kingdoms Team and that should be completed fairly soon as well.

The link to the IGN Guide is:
Fantasy Kingdoms Guide on IGNFreyashawkhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00379748386863454385noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2998377519316030595.post-54496814375906846032010-08-09T16:20:00.000-07:002010-08-10T08:30:12.429-07:00New Quests in Fantasy KingdomsNew Quest options have been added to Fantasy Kingdoms and will be found in the upper left corner of your screen when you load the game. The initial Quests are in the nature of a farming tutorial actually and players at high levels may not be entirely thrilled with them unless they realise this fact. More complex, advanced Quests will follow when players have 'cleared' all the initial Quests.

Before you begin, you will be asked to visit Harmony's Kingdom. This is the prelude to the Quest sequence. As soon as you arrive, you will receive your Reward of 75 Mana and 10 XP. If you deal with whatever pests infest her Kingdom and enchant five Crops, you will receive the usual Mana and XP for those actions. Make a Wish at the Wishing Well before you leave. When you return home, you will find your first real Quest on the screen.

The first Quest is to harvest four Crops. If you are a regular player, you always will have Crops that are ready to be harvested. If not, plant Fresia and wait four hours to harvest it. Your Reward is: 25 Mana and 5 XP. You will be asked if you wish to share the Mana you have earned. If you do, a message will appear on your Wall, allowing other players to claim a bonus of 100 Mana.

Your second Quest will appear when you have completed the first. You now need to infuse four Plots and plant four Crops. Your reward when you have completed both tasks is 50 Mana and 5 XP.

The third Quest is a three-part sequence. You need to infuse four Plots, plant four Crops, then harvest Mana from three Trees. Again, a regular player should have no trouble in finding three Trees that are ready to be harvested. A new player either ccan purchase Trees and place them, or send/receive Gift Trees and place those. You will be required to wait until they are ready for harvest before you can complete the Third Quest. The Reward is 50 Mana and 5 XP.

When you have completed the third Quest, you will see a new prompt:

'Time to clean up the Kingdom: Mana has fallen from the sky. Keep your eyes out for them.'

Three silver stars will be on the ground in random locations on your land, rather like the Monstrous Toads or other creatures and items that appear on Neighbours' Kingdoms. An arrow pointing downward will mark the position of each if you have trouble seeing them. When you have collected three Fallen Stars, this task or Quest will be completed.

Build a Kingdom is the next Quest. It consists of a requirement that you purchase the following items from the Marketplace:

Buy a Country house
Buy 5 Crates
Buy 4 Fences

Incidentally, 'buy' signifies precisely that. You must obtain the items from the Marketplace. A Neighbour's Gift of an Aged Wooden Fence will not be recognised for the purpose of this Quest, even when placed on your Kingdom.

The reward for completion of this Quest is 50 Mana and 10 XP.

Travel the Land
It is time to see what your Neighbours are doing with their Kingdoms!
Visit your Neighbours 0/3
Chase Toads Away: 0/6
Clean Ruins 0/6

When the Quest is completed, you will gain a Reward of 50 Mana and 10 XP. I should have understood, however, that the Sunflower was a part of the Summer Solstice Collection and there were many notices to the effect that those items were temporary editions.

Ordinarily, in real gardens, I am not terribly fond of Yellow or Orange Flowers. The Sunflower is NOT a personal favourite in the 'real world'. I believe the reason for this is my dislike of heat in Summer. As the Summer heat becomes unendurable, the season of the Sunflower and other Yellow and Orange Flowers begins and the Purple and Blue Flowers of late Spring that are my favourites tend to wither away or disappear. In Fantasy Kingdoms, however, the Sunflower is one of my favourite Crops/Flowers. Its luminous sun-like golden Lamps makes any Kingdom breathtakingly beautiful. When Enchanted (fertilised) by a Neighbour, they become larger and even more stunning.

Alas, I no longer can find the Magical Potion (Seeds) for the Sunflowers at the Market. As of yesterday, they appear to have been discontinued, at least for the time being.Freyashawkhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00379748386863454385noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2998377519316030595.post-27181515201052311342010-07-07T12:46:00.000-07:002010-07-09T07:29:23.547-07:00New Option of Spellcasting in Fantasy KingdomsAs new options continue to appear regularly whenever I access Fantasy Kingdoms, it is evident that the creators are lavishing attention and love on this game. Rather to my delight, a new background 'Map' appeared behind the Kingdom screen this morning. A new Spellcasting Option had been added, allowing a player to craft an expansion to storage using three items. Two of the items are Free Gifts introduced only today. The third is a Magic Coin that will be sent to you by Harmony, your default Neighbour and the Guardian of the universe in which your Kingdom is placed.
You need only 1 Coin to perform the Spell, but you will need 15 Copper Ore and 15 Blue Dragon Scales.

As two of the three items can be obtained only as Free Gifts, you should try to persuade at least one member of Facebook to become your Neighbour in Fantasy Kingdoms. The game itself has a page on Facebook where Contests and new Items are announced and where players can request other players to become their Neighbours.

The Option to expand your Storage may or may not be thrilling, depending on the length of time that you have played Fantasy Kingdoms, but I suspect it is simply the first volley in a wonderful ongoing magical experiment.Freyashawkhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00379748386863454385noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2998377519316030595.post-86993901710018517992010-07-06T08:53:00.000-07:002010-08-23T09:42:14.948-07:00Tree Lists in Fantasy Kingdoms
Trees

Dreamcatcher Tree
Cost: 8 KC
Harvest in 2 Days
XP Gain: 4
Yield: 95 Mana
Available at Level 1

Ash Tree
Cost: 325 Mana
Harvest in 3 Days
XP Gain: 5
Yield: 28 Mana
Unlock at Level 2

Dark Wood Tree
Cost: 350 Mana
Harvest in 3 Days
XP Gain: 5
Yield: 30 Mana
Unlock at Level 5

Dogwood Tree:
Cost: 500 Mana
Harvest in 4 Days
XP Gain: 5
Yield: 47 Mana
Unlock at Level 4

Golden Leaf Tree
Cost: 425 Mana
Harvest in 4 Days
XP Gain: 5
Yield: 40 Mana
Unlock at Level 3

Madagascar Dragon Tree
Cost: 650 Mana
Harvest in 4 days
XP Gain: 5
Yield: 60 Mana
Unlock at Level 8

Phoenix Tree
Cost: 750 Mana
Harvest in 5 days
Yield: 75 Mana
Unlock at Level 10

Poison Apple Tree
Cost: 27 Kingdom Coins
Harvest in 2 Days
XP Gain: 20
Yield: 159
Unlock at Level 3

Rainbow Dryad Tree
Cost: 30 KC
Harvest in 3 days
XP Gain: 25
Yield: 167 Mana
Unlock at Level 6

Rowan Tree
Cost: 225 Mana
Harvest in 2 days
XP Gain: 5
Yield: 18 Mana
Available at Level 1

Weeping Willow Tree
Cost: 475 Mana
Harvest in 3 days
XP Gain: 5
Yield: 41 Mana
Unlock at Level 7

Free Gift Trees

As in most Facebook Farming Simulation Games, many Trees cannot be purchased but must be obtained as Gifts. Free Gifts are a method of social interaction between Facebook users. In most games, ony one Gift can be sent each Day by any Player to a specific individual. Rather to my surprise, in adding new items to the Lists, I discovered that the Level Requirements I gave initially for a number of Items no longer were valid. It appears that more Items now are available at Level 1. I have revised the Guides and Lists accordingly.Freyashawkhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00379748386863454385noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2998377519316030595.post-80104946109173597602010-07-01T17:21:00.000-07:002010-07-01T17:27:55.094-07:00<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 187px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZUVm1zMTz6h-z0-uez2k-b0PrsQ1URIiCtNNpWblYBuw1Zq1SeWUN8EIu9ve05bZ75EyLlZUS-uRBM6tL7YbsnNgrfnt0Hot_3fkH5gEAhtKJWOuUW-E5gvPbcvSr7r_yiz4OMoNjuGw/s320/Fantasy+Kingdoms+1+July.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5489098810574080866" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 152px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7Fi5XOHGvFnSMsW6wm4JapH_oPvASY0Rgzcm-2xLpS9dqpJiJpvckam9FyqkB-hBoeNOoQt_uRCuguwmJ2olC7E61XilBPw6-3jn1_mbL2GvXuu6FCHsheeET9hCTfov2TwgIBn1WrMA/s320/Hemlock+Snapdragons.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5489097648523606082" />Freyashawkhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00379748386863454385noreply@blogger.com0
