This is a Quick Reference Guide to the Limited Edition Crops and Items in the Lunar New Year and St. Valentine's Day Collections. As they no longer will be available in the near future, I have opted to create a separate Guide for them rather than adding them to my Fantasy Kingdoms Walkthrough and Guide.

Note that there are some regular Items that have been denoted temporarily as Lunar New Year or Valentine's Day Items, including the Chinese Lantern Crop, the Snapdragon Crop and the Princess House. As these Items will continue to be offered after the Limited Editions Items have been retired, they are not included in this Guide. You will find them instead in the General Guide.


Obtaining Items in Fantasy Kingdoms


There are a number of methods by which a specific Item may be obtained in Fantasy Kingdoms. For the most part, you can purchase any Item in the Marketplace, but specific Items usually have a fixed price EITHER in Kingdoms Cash or in Mana. Land upgrades, however, are an exception to this rule as they usually have a price both in Kingdoms Cash and in Mana.

There are some Items, however, that can be obtained solely as Gifts from Friends and Neighbours. These Items appear in the Free Gifts List that can be accessed at the top of the page when you log into Fantasy Kingdoms. Go to your Games Requests Menu in Facebook to find Gifts that have been sent TO you.

Free Gifts include different types of Items. The Free Gifts List usually includes Trees that are unique to the List and cannot be found elsewhere. One Item that is included in the Free Gifts List is the Mystery Gift, an Aladdin's Lamp that, when activated, contains an Item that may be a Retired Decoration, a Reagent or a sum of Mana.


Reagents


Reagents are an important aspect of gameplay in Fantasy Kingdoms, introduced in the latter half of 2010. They are Ingredients in Spellcasting and are found in the Free Gifts List, in the Daily Fortune and as random Rewards for tending to your own Kingdom or a Neighbour's Kingdom. When you obtain any Reagent, you must choose the 'Transfer' option in order to make it available for Spellcasting. If you fail to do so, it will stay in your Gifts Box, quite useless until you have transferred it.

The majority of Items in the Free Gifts now are Reagents for Spellcasting. In some cases, you can obtain the same Items by purchasing them from the Marketplace or by tending your own Kingdom or a Neighbour's Kingdom. Reagents tend to be specific to particular actions, however.

For example, the Snapdragon Wing can be obtained by harvesting Snapdragons, but not by harvesting other Crops. Specific Candy Hearts can be obtained either by harvesting Artifacts or Crops. The Daily Fortune may be a source for some of these Reagents as well.

Note that a player who receives a Reagent in the course of gameplay is given the option to 'share' one with Friends. How this is accomplished is determined by the way you set your games and applications options on Facebook. If you give Fantasy Kingdoms the power to post automatically, you will find that only the first few 'share' opportunities will be posted each session or day. If you withhold the power, you will be given the option to 'share' each time an opportunity occurs.

There are different general privacy options that are available through Facebook. The first is to share with 'Every one'. The second is to share with 'Friends of friends'. The third is to share with 'Friends'.

Within your general privacy setting, however, you can choose a more specific setting each time you are given the opportunity to 'share' by using the pull-down menu that appears with the option to 'publish'. This may be tiresome and time-consuming but it is a valuable option if you would prefer not to load the Walls of ALL your non-gaming Friends on Facebook with your gaming activities. You can select specific Friends with whom to share any post or you can choose 'Only Me' if you would prefer not to share your gaming activities with any one else.

Facebook is designed as a 'social network' which means that it encourages sharing of information. All the games that were created for the Facebook platform likewise promote sharing of information and virtual Items. Nonetheless, the fact that a Facebook user has the option to restrict 'sharing' in this manner can be invaluable, especially in cases where users have family and friends who are not interested in gaming or actively disapprove of it!

Near the end of 2010, special Limited Edition Gift 'Boxes' similar to the Mystery Gift were included in the Gifts List. During the Christmas Season, these consisted of a SMall Holiday Gift and a Holiday Gift. During the Valentine's Day season, these consist of the Cupid's Gift and the Valentine's Gift. Like the Mystery Gift, these Gift Boxes must be activated in order to discover the actual Item contained within.

Unlike Reagents, which must be transferred directly from the Gift Box, any Mystery Gift or special Gift Box must be 'used' by placing it on your Kingdom before you can open it by choosing the 'Activate' option.

Treasure Chest/Mystery Gifts


Treasure Chests and Mystery Gifts, when activated, contain special Items. Often these Items will be Decorations from retired special Collections or Items that cannot be purchased or obtained by any other means, such as the Tree of the Fallen. The ordinary Mystery Gift, resembling Aladdin's Lamp, is available as a Free Gift in every season as a Free Gift to send to Neighbours and Friends. Two new special Limited Edition Mystery Gifts for Valentine's Day are heart-shaped Boxes named Cupid's Gift and Valentine's Gift.
